Suddenly the roomful of toys came to life! From every corner playthings gathered around to study the newcomer. There were whispers about how the glowing box did not predict this one. Then a shriek came from atop the dresser. It was a blue spray bottle with a battery-powered fan on top. "I can't believe he forgot me! It is going to be hot on their vacation and now the boy will have to get another one! There is no room for two spray bottle fans on the dresser! If he is going to just forget about me then what is the point of it all?" The spray bottle fan sneered at the wind-up dog. "It is your fault for distracting the boy and making him forget!"
Ropes lowered from the shelf above. Other Major Smith O' Reens figures repelled down to the shelf for inspection of the small wind-up toy. The majors were the same hero but varied in size and quality: one looked like a special edition and another looked like it came from a cereal box. Each of them wore a different uniform for specific missions. Last to descend was an oversized figure that was the same model as the one Henry took with him except with safari gear. The soldier greeted the wind-up dog in a friendly manner but quickly switched to telling him to keep in line and stay in his place. "You are not actually a toy. You are a knickknack! While we toys take the risks of being broken, chewed or lost, you ornaments sit on the shelf year after year and become collectibles that are passed down after a child grows up to their children!" The major pointed to a kite hanging from the ceiling. As the soldier explained the kite's duty the kite began to tremble nervously. "Each time he goes up on a mission he might not come back. Chances are if a tree does not get him a power line will!" The kite could barely stand to listen and its tail shook uncontrollably.
